Apple Watch apps start hitting the App Store

Business , Technology 30th March 2015

Apple’s first smart wearable will be arriving on consumers’ wrists in about a month, but the first Apple Watch-ready apps have already started arriving in Apple’s App Store.

A select few apps selected by Apple to be available for the Apple Watch have started hitting the app store and these app updates that add Apple Watch support include Twitter, Things, Target, Dark Sky, and Sky Guide, and many more apps are continuing to roll out with support. These are the apps which will be available from the get-go for the smartwatch, and obviously the ones which work well, as Apple will want to promote an air of slickness about the software on launch day – they’ll require apps to be streamlined and functioning well.  Any bugs in Apple’s own software, or third-party efforts, will reflect badly on the device.

While developers can’t upload Apple Watch-enabled apps on their own yet, some of the apps shown off in Apple’s demos and on the company’s web site have clearly been given the green light. The apps are likely being released publicly now to allow the inevitable Apple Watch reviewers to access third-party Apple Watch apps. These apps will likely also be included with the Apple Store Apple Watches to show customers how familiar third-party apps from their iPhone can work with the new device. The apps are likely being released publicly now to allow the inevitable Apple Watch reviewers to access third-party Apple Watch apps.
