The Church of England embarked on an ambitious project to develop an app designed to deliver daily reflection content to users. The new app was set to replace their Campaign App, known as “Follow the Star,” which had garnered a substantial user base of over 20,000. This, therefore presented us with a challenge of balancing continuity and familiarity with innovation to maintain the existing users while enticing potential new users. The new app’s ecosystem needed to be both flexible and scalable to support future campaigns and evolving content needs. Achieving this required creating a robust content delivery framework that ensured smooth transitions and minimal impact on the user experience, while also supporting efficient content management for the team at Church of England.

Our process

While the frontend requirements for the Church of England’s new app were not inherently complex, executing them well was critical to ensuring a smooth user experience. The simplicity of the interface needed to facilitate easy navigation through daily reflections while maintaining a visually appealing and intuitive design.

Pocket App developed a bespoke Content Management System tailored specifically to the Church of England’s needs, empowering their team to manage content dynamically and with ease. This custom CMS was designed to be user-friendly, enabling swift upload without needing technical expertise. The flexibility of the system ensured that new content could be introduced seamlessly, allowing The Church of England to manage seasonal campaigns, daily content or changing needs without delays. This capability played a crucial role in keeping the app’s content fresh, engaging and aligned with the spiritual needs of users, ensuring the app remained a timely and impactful resource for the community.

The results

The app was strategically soft launched to a select group of users, allowing us to gather valuable feedback and identify potential areas for refinement before the full-scale release. This approach provided an opportunity to test the app’s core functionalities in a real-world setting, ensuring that both the content delivery system and user interface performed as expected. By closely monitoring user interactions and collecting insights, we were able to address any issues and make necessary improvements. This iterative process not only enhanced the app’s stability and usability but also ensured that the final launch provided a smooth transition from the previous campaign to the newly launched platform.

Pocket App remains an ongoing partner with the Church of England, continuously collaborating to enhance the app and introduce new updates and features that further enrich the user experience. Our commitment to refining the platform ensures that it stays relevant, responsive, and aligned with the evolving needs of both the Church and its community. Building on the success of this project, we have since taken on two additional initiatives with the Church of England, further strengthening our relationship. We look forward to continuing this partnership, leveraging our expertise to support the Church’s digital transformation and contribute to its mission through innovative technology solutions.
