The application requires clinicians to authenticate their identity before scanning the patient’s wristband barcode to access their information. The pathway data is uploaded and managed via the content management system and on the frontend, users can select the appropriate group and pathway related to the procedure and complete the required care pathway form. Once submitted, the form is submitted via Imperial College Healthcare’s integration system, which subsequently forwards the data to Cerner.

Our process

A critical feature of the application was the ability for users to scan patient barcodes, which required integrating a third-party provider to facilitate this functionality. This ensured that patient details could be accurately retrieved in line with clinical requirements. Collaboration with the ICHT team was instrumental in designing the structure of the pathway data, ensuring it aligned with the specific requirements for capturing and transferring data within Cerner. This collaborative effort helped verify that all data was passed in the appropriate format, maintaining system integrity and compliance.

To address the dual need for updating user access and pathway data, Pocket App implemented Backpack for Laravel, a highly customisable admin portal. This solution provided a flexible and efficient way to manage administrative tasks while ensuring the platform’s scalability. The application itself was developed using React Native, chosen for its adaptability and ability to deliver a unified codebase. This approach allowed for seamless deployment across both iOS and Android platforms, ensuring a consistent and streamlined user experience.

The results

The application is scheduled for launch this year and will be exclusively distributed for internal use. The initial launch will take place within a limited number of trusts to establish a user base and gather feedback on the platform. This feedback will guide the development of features and functionalities for future updates. Pocket App continues working closely with Imperial Healthcare to improve and maintain the application.
