The importance of maintaining apps

At Pocket App, we always tell our clients that getting an app in the stores is only the beginning of the journey. In a fast-changing mobile landscape, keeping an app alive and going is not an easy task. If your app hasn’t been updated for 2 years, it is considered “abandoned” And the latest report from Pixalate looking at Q4 2022 suggests that they are on the rise with a 6% increase compared to Q3.

There are a staggering 1.86 million abandoned apps across the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Interestingly, the Play Store hosts most of them with 1.3 million abandoned apps against 496,000 only on the App Store. This might change soon as Google has announced they are about to purge as much as 900,000 abandoned apps from the Play Store.

Android and iOS are evolving every year to fight off security threats and further improve user experiences. Abandoned apps may have some features not working anymore because of it but more importantly they pose a big security threat and put users and their data at risk.

When you work with us at Pocket App, you are never left on your won. All of our clients have support and maintenance packages tailored to their needs and our mobile experts make sure their apps are always up to date, respecting the latest security guidelines and offering the best user experience possible.
