The HowTo app is a social media platform for all things creative! Makers can connect with a fast-growing community filled with like-minded creative people and share their creations. Creativity comes in all shapes and sizes, and the app makes it easier than ever to discover photos, videos and users based around topics of interest. Users can stay up-to-date with projects from their favourite creators or simply discover new ideas for their own projects.

Our process

The biggest challenge when creating new social media apps is to move the audience away from the likes of Instagram, TikTok etc. During our discovery phase, we identified features to allow makers to showcase their creations in a way that wouldn’t be possible on traditional social media. Users can create steps as they happen with photos, videos, tools and materials, generating interest and engagement as their projects develop. When the project is completed, all steps are compiled into a comprehensive how-to other creators can follow.

The results

The app was launched at the Makers Central event in 2022 and was downloaded more than 2,000 times on the day. Since then, the userbase grew consistently and some of the biggest YouTubers from the makers community such as Colin Furze and Jimmy DiResta joined and are uploading content to the platform.

The Waiting Game

The Waiting Game endeavoured to create a flexible and easy to use mobile application. Their main objectives for the application was to advertise any upcoming events, to monitor staff shifts and work patterns, and to automatically update staff’s payroll and any other relevant paperwork via the system.
